During the summer months, we offer international visitors a behind-the-scenes look at the deep-drilling program in English language. You will learn about the challenges encountered and the results of the drilling operations. Try out the earthquake simulator, listen to the “voice of the Earth,” and test the drilling fluid. At the 83-meter-high drilling rig, we explain the technical challenges of deep drilling and provide an overview of the drilling equipment. See the traveling block, hook, swivel, kelly, drill pipes, and drill collars, as well as various drill bits, and learn how they were used.

NOTES: Advance booking is required via the inquiry form. The tour lasts approximately 1.5 hours and costs €50.00, plus the admission fee. A maximum of 25 people can participate in the tour. Instructions given by the tour staff must be followed. Accompanying adults bear full responsibility for children under the age of 6.

Your guide will explain the various components of the displayed KTB drill string—and, above all, the drilling equipment itself. You will then enter the drawworks area of ​​the derrick, where you must put on a safety helmet for the tour of the structure. You will ascend the access stairs to the visitor platform, located 17 meters up the derrick. There, your guide will show you the various facilities on the working platform. Finally, a short film about the drilling operations will give you a vivid impression of the work processes involved.
